Knit the Golden Hour Cardigan – Cosy, Chunky & Stylish

Looking for an easy chunky cardigan knitting pattern?

The Gold Hour Cardigan is a cosy, ribbed cardigan worked in chunky yarn, knit flat to the armholes for a relaxed, oversized fit. Designed for confident beginners, this pattern focuses on simple stitches, making it approachable while creating a wearable statement piece.

Who Is This For?

The Golden Hour Cardigan pattern is ideal for:

  • Confident beginners comfortable with knit and purl stitches

  • Makers who want to knit a cosy, chunky cardigan

  • Hobby knitters expanding their wearable wardrobe

  • Anyone searching for “beginner chunky ribbed cardigan knitting pattern PDF”

If you’ve knitted scarves, hats, or simple tops, and want to make a full garment with minimal shaping, this pattern is perfect.

What You’ll Learn

By knitting the Golden Hour Cardigan, you’ll learn:

  • How to knit chunky ribbing evenly

  • How to construct a cardigan from the bottom up to reduce seaming

  • How to seam shoulders neatly using a three-needle bind off for a polished finish

  • How to finish edges and cuffs professionally

  • How to adjust body length and sleeve length for a personalised fit

This pattern builds confidence in chunky garment construction while keeping stitches simple. Super bulky yarn makes it a fast and satisfying knit, while wide bands of garter and stockinette create a simple texture inspired by the warm, shifting light at the end of the day.

Originally designed for Simply Knitting Magazine's Christmas issue in 2024, this is an easy and quick pattern.

CONSTRUCTION:
The cardigan is knitted from the bottom up. Stitches are cast on for both fronts and the back, which are worked seamlessly. The shoulders are joined using a three-needle bind off. Stitches are then picked up for the sleeves, which are worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up for the collar, which is worked flat.

SIZES:
This relaxed fit cardigan is available in 7 sizes from 71cm/28 inch chest through to 152cm/60 inch chest. Shoulder to hip is between 64 and 69cm (25-27 inches), it is designed to be worn with approximately 10cm/4 inches of ease around the bust.

Chest circumference:
71/86/91/107/122/137/152 cm
28/34/36/42/48/54/60 inches
