Skyja, Icelandic for cloudlike, is a lightweight alpaca cardigan knitting pattern designed for relaxed layering and everyday wear. Warm yet airy, this cardigan is ideal for in-between seasons and compact enough to fit easily into a travel bag, making it a perfect companion for life on the go.
Knitted in stockinette stitch with a soft alpaca yarn, Skyja showcases a delicate halo and beautiful drape that feels whisper-light while still providing comforting warmth. The fabric is intentionally loose and breathable, creating a modern cardigan that feels cosy without being bulky.
The design features a modern hip-length silhouette, a softly rounded neckline, and relaxed top-down raglan shaping that allows the garment to flow naturally over the body. Subtle balloon sleeves add gentle volume, balancing clean Nordic lines with contemporary style. Skyja pairs effortlessly with everything from simple t-shirts to cosy turtlenecks.
CONSTRUCTION:
The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down.
Neckline shaping is worked over the first few rows to help lower the front neckline at the same time as increases are worked at four points to shape the yoke. The body is then created with increases at each marker until the yoke is completed, then separated to create the body and sleeve sections. Stitches are picked up for the button band and collar once the sweater has been completed.
SIZES:
This relaxed fit cardigan is available in 9 sizes from 82cm/32 inch chest through to 172cm/68 inch chest. Shoulder to hip is approximately 60cm (24 inches).
It is designed to be worn with approximately 10-20cm/4-8 inches of ease around the bust.
Chest circumference:
82/92/102/112/123/137/150/160/172 cm
32/26/40/44/49/54/59/63/68 inches
SKILLS:
Basic increases are used for shaping, but as stitches are cast on to shape the neckline at the same time as increases are made to create the raglan shaping, I would recommend this for advanced beginners and beyond.
