A little scarf that’s hard to put down — and even harder not to wear.

This mini scarf knitting pattern is a simple, satisfying knit with a lovely ribbed texture, neat i-cord edging and softly tapered ends. It’s long enough to wrap twice around your neck, giving you plenty of cosy warmth without the bulk of a traditional scarf.

It’s the sort of project you can happily pick up in the evening, knit a few rows, put down and come back to later without having to remember where on earth you were.

The rib gives the fabric a lovely squishy feel, while the i-cord edging adds a beautifully neat finish. And those tapered ends? Just a little bit special.

Cosy without the bulk

I designed this scarf using Rowan Fine Tweed Haze, a beautifully soft and hazy yarn with subtle flecks of colour running through it. It gives the finished scarf a wonderfully soft, slightly rustic feel that’s perfect for chilly days.

You’ll need approximately 215m / 235yds.

But you don’t need to use Rowan Fine Tweed Haze.

This pattern is designed for DK-weight yarn, so you can use your favourite DK yarn instead. It’s also a lovely project for using up that special skein you’ve been keeping in your stash waiting for the right project.

You know the one.

About the pattern

The scarf is knitted flat in 1x1 rib stitch, with an i-cord edging and tapered ends for a neat, finished look.

The rib creates a lovely stretchy and squishy fabric that traps warmth without making the scarf thick or cumbersome. The i-cord edging gives the sides a clean finish, while the tapered ends add a subtle detail that makes the finished scarf feel a little more special.

It’s a small project, so you get that satisfying I’ve made this! feeling without committing yourself to knitting something enormous.

It’s also a lovely choice if you’re looking for an easy knitting project that doesn’t require complicated shaping or a huge time commitment.

Can I use a different yarn?

Absolutely.

Although the sample is knitted in Rowan Fine Tweed Haze, you can use another DK-weight yarn. Just make sure you achieve the gauge given in the pattern for the finished fabric to have the intended size and feel.
